GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Greets and assists general public by providing information on the center and department programs. Performs direct operations of the Astoria Recreation Center office with the ability to be tactful, courteous, and work effectively with guests and aquatic staff; does related work as required.
 
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: An employee in this class is responsible for the direct operation of the Astoria Recreation Center office. Promotes the activities of the Astoria Parks & Community Services Department. This position is under the general supervision of the Recreation Manager. Assists in all phases of Astoria Recreation Center programs and operations.
 
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Illustrative only. Any single position of a class may not involve all of the essential duties listed, and many positions will involve essential duties which are not listed.)
 
Answers telephones and takes accurate messages; assists the general public and staff by providing information on the center and department programs. Refers calls and people to the appropriate personnel.

Collects admissions, passes, and rentals.

Register guests for programs.

Maintains accountability for cash till.

Keeps office and common area neat and clean. Performs general housekeeping duties in and around the aquatic center.

Reports safety issues/concerns to supervisor as needed.

Attends required staff orientations, in-service training and meetings.

Sells concessions and merchandise at the counter.

Conveys friendly, helpful, and cheerful attitude to guests and fellow employees.

Maintains a neat and professional appearance; reports for work punctually.

Completes necessary reports and records. Compiles information for reports under minimal supervision.

Serves as backup and support in the event of an accident or emergency.

Monitors and adjusts procedures pertaining to all office and concession stand administrative operations.

Assists the center supervisor with purchasing duties.

 
WORK ENVIRONMENT: work is primarily performed in an inside environment generally around the commons area. Shifts may be scheduled as needed to accommodate the program needs of the facility. Works effectively with people of all ages, ethnic origins, and social-economic backgrounds.
 
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
 
KNOWLEDGE OF: Knowledge of appropriate telephone skills; modern office methods and procedures and office equipment including computers, cash register, calculators, and other related equipment.
 
ABILITY TO: Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; perform general clerical duties including maintenance of records and compiling information; works courteously with staff and guests including handling difficult situations in a professional manner; works with minimum supervision; assumes a work schedule flexible to program needs; use safe working habits at all times.
 
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above described duties or the ability to be trained to do the prescribed duties.
